AGRADECIMIENTO / THANKS

IZMIR INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY DAYS

IZMIR INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY DAYS

In a country where photography is growing up more and more every day, a group of enthusiastic, amateur and professional persons, sensitive to what picture means in our changing world these days, want to keep on with their dreams.

The bet they have for organizing photography exhibitions, talks with important photographers from several countries or round tables where local and foreign people raise the principal questions about photography, is at least praiseworthy and enviable.

All this, is what has been Izmir International Photography Days, celebrated in Izmir (Turkey), last weekend, and has been organized by the association IFOD (Izmir Association of Photography Art) and the Department of Photography of the Dokuz Eylül University Fine Arts Faculty, an event I had the privilege of witnessing as an exhibitor and also as a speaker in a conference about my work “Lights of Africa”.

The organization has been absolutely perfect: the directive committee, all the speakers and the rest of the participants, all has been managed with an extraordinary quality. Moreover, what attracted my attention and emphasized, was the enthusiasm and passion of the audience. I have really been taken with the thirst that the great majority of them have to learn. I don’t talk only about technical knowledge or amazing new technologies; I’m talking about concepts, fundamentals, I’m talking about learning how to look at, how to attract, how to pass on. I’m talking about learning photography and about the knowledge of what really means to be or to feel as a photographer.

I hope in the future I will be able to continue contributing to their training and knowledge. I get excited a lot about working with that kind of people, above all because this way keeps photography alive.

I would like to thank Dr. Beyhan Ozdemir, the real life and soul of the project, his invitation to participate in this event: it has been a privilege and honor.
I also would like to thank Gödze Yenipazarli for introducing me in her “University World”.
Thanks to Atilla and Nilgün for their attentions and hospitality too: I hope to be able to repay you if you ever go to Spain.
Thanks to Gülten, who had to shoulder with the responsibility of translations. Apart from being a good photographer, she is a good person who honors me with her friendship.
Thanks to Tûba who gave me every day her smile and transmitted me her happiness.
To Seray who communicated us her youth. One day she will be a great Turkish photographer, recognized all over the world.
To Özge, whose serenity and wisdom has been indispensable for me.
To Medic, who has been my right arm in each moment I needed him. I would like you to be my great Turkish friend, even if Fenerbahçe and Barça ever have to fight.
To Turkay, Ege, Esra, Serkan, Emin… and other members of IFOD who, with their presence, obtained that my short journey in Izmir had been a very great present that I won’t forget in my whole life.
